March 27th, 2010 Brawl Tournament Rules

Postby Cartman64 on Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:01 pm

Hello Everyone, I like to officially announce that the Brawl Tournament is a 1 VS 1 tournament.

Tournament Rules

1 vs 1
Their will be four rounds. (possibly more provided time is on our side)
All rounds will be single elimination... yes I know sounds kinda bad but due to time constraints we have to get time down some were. this seemed the most logical way to cut time.
The winner of each round will be guaranteed a high seed in the playoff bracket, secound place will also make the playoffs altough they will obtain a lower seed.
Once you lose the round you sit out until the next round starts. You can play in as many rounds as you like. First and second of each round will also sit out of any following rounds, because they have already guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs.
All matches will be determined randomly.
The level in which you fight will also be determined randomly... Turny levels only of course
Oh yeah and this time no agreeing on stages!

Playoffs are basically the same setup, single elimination, random map select, random match up, (Last man standing will be the Spring Brawl winner)

No cheating or you will be removed from the tournament

these are Beta... so what do you all think?

Okay... I asked around and some people said it sounded a tad confusing.

Heres the deal: Each round will be like its own mini tournament. who ever comes in First and second will advance on into the playoffs. Now their will be multiple rounds of these mini tournaments to create the playoff bracket so... once you lose your not out permanently your just out until the next round starts. not sure how many rounds were going to be able to do of this... I believe 4 will easily be possible as for more than that im not sure. although I will probably institute a maximum of 8 rounds. this will create a maximum of 16 playoff spots.

Oh and seeding in the playoffs will be determined by how you place in the the rounds and what round you place in...
For example lets say theirs 4 rounds which means theirs 8 playoff spots.
Winner of round one will get see one, 2nd place of round 1 will get 5th seed.
Winner of secound round will get seed two, 2nd place in round two will earn you the 6th seed. (this pattern continues on till all the seeds are filled)

Highest seed will play lowest seed remaining.

If it was possible to compose a chart of how the seeding/brackets progress then that would make it much easier to understand.

One vs one is something that will definitely make the tournament better I know a lot of people that were turned off by people double/triple teaming them. This will alleviate that problem. Only thing that I would ask to be added is that the final match be a best of 3. It always seems anti-climatic to make it one match. But I know how the VGC tournaments usually go and we've got people at the door ready to kick us out before we can finish.

The Best way I can describe how this Tournament is going to work is...

Its sevral Mini Tournaments (there should be four, time permitting there may be more) Each Mini Tournament is single elimination, if you lose your out till the next one starts. The Mini Tournaments set up the playoff bracket. who ever wins the first tournament will get seed one.(lets say hypothetically theres 4 rounds) in that case the person who came in secound in the first mini tournament would get seed five. The secound Mini Tournament would determine the secound seed and the six seed... this pattern countinues until all the seeds are filled. Depending on how many mini tournaments we get in will determine how many playoff spots there are. each mini tournament will equal 2 playoff spots. The higest seed remaining will always play the lowest seed remaining in the playoffs. The playoff bracket will also be a single elimination.

Best of luck to everyone who competes, if you have any questions feel free to reply here in this topic!

If I recall correctly. Would it be a correct statement that only FGCU students will be able to collect prizes? Such that if an Alumnus should win first, the prizes would be awarded to second through fourth place? Just curious. Though I can't imagine FGCU changing that archaic rule.

Anyone is eligible to collect the prizes; Student Government has never mentioned any rule stating "giveaways are only to fgcu students" to me. Nor does it mention anything in the rule book for registered organizations.

On top of that, they encouraged us to get the word out, that way it would bring people from off campus in for the event...
